Beijing Chinese Culture Center – to support a full-length variety show including singing, dancing, mini-drama plays and folk arts that share real-life stories of the first-generation Chinese immigrants in Minnesota. “My Life in Minnesota”, will be a full-length variety show at Benson Great Hall. The show will feature singing, dances, mini-drama plays and Chinese folk arts that share the real life stories of the first-generation Chinese immigrants in Minnesota. It will be a true grass roots performing art show that tells our own stories, the first of the kind in our community.

Yinghua Academy – to underwrite, in part, the cost of printing the book Our Neighbors. It is written by Yinghua 5th grader Kiri Meier Werner, and consists of twelve interviews she conducted, in Mandarin, with the local shopkeepers she met during her year attending 4th grade in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. This book will be used as part of the curriculum to prepare Yinghua students before they embark on their summer study trips to China. It will also be used on other occasions as a way to showcase the School.

Minhua Chorus – to support our 18th annual concert entitled Sharing the Beautiful Moonlight Far from East to West (?????). The goal of this project is to produce a full-length (2 hours) concert featuring songs, dances, poems, Beijing opera and ensemble that demonstrate the unique characteristics of Chinese cultural legends and activities around the moon. This will be a multi-disciplinary musical event.

Minneapolis Institute of Art – to underwrite the travel expenses, including airfare, hotel, per diem, and local transportation, of Dr. Su Rongyu, Professor in the Department of History and Natural Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Bronzes. Dr. Su Rongyu, one of the foremost specialists on ancient Chinese bronze casting technology, will come to Mia to study the bronzes in the museum’s collection that will be used for an upcoming exhibition on Chinese bronzes at Mia, and will contribute an essay for the exhibition catalogue.
